Easter in Austria is full of time-honoured traditions that in many families are still celebrated today like Easter egg colouring, binding Palm Bouquets and special culinary traditions like baking Easter lambs and eating Easter ham. In the middle of the Untersberg National Park, close to the City of Salzburg you will find Salzburg's open air museum. On the 500,000 square meter plot, time seems to have stood still: The "Salzburger Freilichtmuseum" documents farming life in the County of Salzburg from the 16th to the 20th Century. Seventy original building including farm houses, mills, barns and even a school have been relocated here, piece for piece to give visitors not only the chance to see history but to live it. Every year at Easter the museum is home to the traditional Easter Market.
