Gaisberg Race in Salzburg

A 1955 Mercedes 190 SL followed closely by BMW 328, that once raced on the Nürburgring race track in 1936 - that's the essence of the Gaisberg Race in Salzburg.

An Alfa Romeo 6C1500 S built in 1928 and  Bentley 4 ½ L Open Tourer of the same year tailing racing cars of younger decades, like the Jaguar XK 140 DHC, at 100 kilometres an hour. Thousands of vintage car fans line Salzburg's roads for the three-day event in Salzburg.

Wenn the new-age Gaisberg Race takes place at the end of May - beginning of June each year, thousands of vintage car enthusiasts flock to Salzburg. Before the final leg of the race on the Gaisberg Mountain just outside Salzburg is driven, the City Grand Prix,  takes place in Salzburg's Old Town. The flag drops for these noble vehicles at the Residenzplatz in Salzburg and the race then continues along the Rudolfskai next to the river and on to the Nonntal Bridge, then the Imbergstraße and over the City Bridge (Staatsbrücke) back to the cathedral.
