Numerous opera, drama and musical stage productions await culture enthusiasts on 44 days in various different locations in Salzburg - the Salzburg Festival remains one of the most attractive and prestigious cultural events in the world. Festival Director Markus Hinterhäuser has once again managed to put together a diverse programme that will certainly enthral festival visitors and followers.

As usual the major names in music, drama and opera will be gracing Salzburg's stages in 2019 making the Mozart City once again a cultural hotspot with its traditional closing Festival Ball in the historic and world famous Felsenreitschule.

The uniquely individual Salzburg Festival programme

Each year culturally interested visitors from all over the world flock to the Salzburg Festival. For 44 days Salzburg's stages are home to numerous operas, plays and concerts. Stars of film, stage and music ensure that the festival remains up-beat, significant and of undisputed quality. Year for year the organisers manage to surpass themselves with a well-balanced, innovatively assembled cultural programmes that audiences never seem to tire of. 

In 2019 the audience's interest in the myths of antiquity will be awakened when Festival founder Hugo von Hofmannsthal looks into a "magic mirror". The Festival is opened with Idomeneo by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. One of the mythological figures in this year's festival programme is Media, who inn Luigi Cherubinis work Medée plays the leading role. The concert programme also includes traces of the mythical with Albert Ostermaier's monologue Ouverture spiritual.

"Everyman" - every year

Without the absolute audience's absolute favourite Hugo von hofmannsthal's "Jedermann" the Salzburg Festival just wouldn't be the same. In 2019 Tobias Moretti will once again be playing the leading role and next to him Valery Tscheplanowa as leading lady. Also as in 2018 Wolfgang Mitterer is the musical director of this production.
