Sledging and tobogganing in the Salzkammergut

Sledging down the forest tracks of the Schafberg

Why not try tobogganing from the Grögernalm in the Salzkammergut! From the car park in Tiefbrunn the idyllic mountain hut restaurant, the Grögernalm, can only be reached on foot. After about an hour's winter walk through the snow covered woods you reach the start of the run where a rustic mountain hut and a 3 kilometre-long natural toboggan run awaits you.

Even if your kids have never been too enthusiastic about hiking, the walk to the top of the natural Grögernalm toboggan run in the Salzkammergut Lake District is a completely different matter. The expectant joy of whizzing down the 3 kilometre-long mountain slope keeps them walking enthusiastically until they reach the top. This is the type of excursion that adults and kids both love.

Sledges can be hired at the run

You'd love to try out tobogganing but didn't pack your sledge? No problem, sledges can be hired at the mountain hut at the top of the run. And then, after some refreshments in the hut, you're off, off and away.

Magical holiday pleasure in the Lake Fuschl Region

Furthermore, the trail leading up to the Alm is not a normal hiking trail, but a fairy-tale trail. Along the path you will find ten signs that tell the story of the "Elderflower Lady of Schafbachalm". The Elderflower Lady lived in a derelict, wooden hut surrounded by elder bushes. The old lady used the flowers and berries from the bushes to make tinctures, liqueurs and other delicious foods and drinks. One day a young father, whose daughter was very ill, came to the hut and asked her to heal his daughter.

Are you curious to find out how the story ends? On the winter walk up to the Schafbachalm you and your children will be able to find out what happened to the child and how the story of the Elderflower Lady continues
